Blocked gutter cleaning across Nottingham, from the ground
Gutter Cleaned is a Nottingham gutter cleaner run by Stephen Fudge, a former Local Authority Cleaning Inspector. A blocked gutter is the job we do more than any other — on Victorian terraces in Radford and Sneinton, 1930s semis in Wollaton and Arnold, and post-war estates from Bulwell to Clifton. We clear it with a SkyVac Industrial 85 from the ground, so no ladders touch your walls and no one goes on your roof; we film every run on GoPro before and after; and the price is fixed before we start.
We don't do gutter repairs. That matters more than it sounds: if we find a failed joint or a sagging run while we clear the blockage, we photograph it and tell you, but we have nothing to sell you off the back of it. You get a clear gutter, honest footage, and a decision you can make in your own time.
Six signs your gutter is blocked
Most people call us after the second or third of these. The earlier you catch it, the less there is to clear — and the less water has gone somewhere it shouldn't.
Overflowing at the corner
In heavy rain, water tips over the front edge or sheets off the corner where the gutter turns. The outlet is blocked and the run is holding water the whole way along. This is the call we get most.
Water running down the wall
A wet patch on the brickwork below one point of the gutter, or a tide mark on the render. Either the gutter is overflowing there or a joint has failed — cleaning tells you which, and we tell you straight.
Green streaks and algae
A green or black streak down the wall under a joint, or algae along the inside of the gutter, means water has been sitting or leaking there for months. Classic on north-facing walls and cast-iron runs.
Plants growing out of the gutter
Grass, moss cushions, a buddleia or a small tree. If something is growing, there's compost under it and the gutter hasn't drained in a long time. The root ball usually sits right on the outlet.
Sagging or dripping between brackets
Plastic gutters bow under the weight of wet debris, so a run that dips in the middle is usually full. Dripping from a joint days after it last rained means the run is holding water.
Damp inside, or a gurgling downpipe
A damp patch high on an upstairs wall, a musty smell in a bedroom corner, or a downpipe that gurgles and spits in rain. The gutter above it is blocked, or the downpipe itself is packed — see our downpipe unblocking page.
What actually blocks Nottingham gutters
Nottingham's housing and its trees decide what ends up in the gutter. A few things come up on almost every job.
Moss
The single biggest cause across Nottingham. Concrete tiles on the post-war estates — Clifton, Bulwell, Bestwood, Aspley, Killisick — grow moss, especially on north-facing slopes, and it sheds into the gutter all year. It settles in the sag of ageing plastic runs, compacts, and sets like mortar by spring. Nothing drains through it.
Leaf fall and seed
West Bridgford, Mapperley Park, Wollaton, The Park and the streets around Arnot Hill, Woodthorpe Grange and Wollaton Park all have century-old limes, planes and oaks. September to December they drop leaves, seed and sticky honeydew straight into the gutter. A gutter that was clear in August holds a pond by November.
Silt and roof grit
The fine grit that washes off old slate and clay tiles, plus the sand out of eroding mortar, settles as silt in the low points of cast-iron and ogee gutters. It doesn't look like much from the pavement, but a couple of centimetres of silt along a whole run holds the water back and packs the outlet.
Tennis balls, nests and pigeons
A tennis ball wedged at the outlet, a bird's nest in the hopper, or on the worst jobs years of pigeon droppings mixed into the leaf compost. Our Woodchurch Road job in Arnold filled six builders' buckets. We bag it and take it away.
When it looks blocked but isn’t
Roughly one job in ten, the gutter turns out to be clear and the water is coming from somewhere else: a lead-caulked joint on a cast-iron run that has finally let go, a plastic union clip that has popped, a bracket that has pulled out of a rotten fascia so the run has dropped at one end and drains backwards, or a downpipe cracked at the collar behind the pipe where you can't see it.
Because we film every run before and after, you see exactly what we saw. If the gutter is clear and the joint is the problem, we say so, and you get the footage to hand to whoever quotes the repair. We don't do repairs, so you're not being sold one. It is the main reason to pick a gutter cleaner who films the job rather than one who tells you what he found from the top of a ladder.
Clearing a blocked gutter, step by step
Every clean follows the same routine — entirely from the ground, no ladders against your walls, no one on your roof.
Fixed quote
Tell us your property type and postcode — we reply with a fixed price, no call-out fee. Blocked gutters are usually booked within the week; if water is coming in we try to fit you in sooner.
GoPro before footage
We record every gutter run before we start, so you can see the blockage, the standing water and the debris level.
SkyVac clear
Vacuum poles draw out moss, silt, leaves and compost from the ground — up to four storeys. Plants come out with the root ball. Over conservatory glass we use the reach poles, so nothing rests on the roof.
Downpipes flushed
Every outlet and downpipe is flushed until it runs clear. If a downpipe is packed solid we rod it as part of the job.
Anything flagged
Cracked joints, sagging runs, loose brackets or a failed downpipe collar spotted on the way — photographed and pointed out, with no repair to sell you.
Footage & tidy
Debris bagged and taken away, nothing left on your drive, and your GoPro before & after sent over the same day — easiest by WhatsApp.
If we find damage
We report it, we don't repair it. If a joint has failed, a bracket has gone or a downpipe is cracked, you get a photo and a plain explanation the same day, and it goes in your report so you have it in writing. We don't do gutter repairs, so there's no reason for us to find problems that aren't there — you decide what to do next, and you can use the footage to get a repair quoted properly.

Storm damage, moving house and moss removal
Three questions we get every week that used to have pages of their own. The short answers are here; the long ones are in the FAQ below.
After a storm
If a storm has left your gutter overflowing or water coming through, call rather than fill the form. We can't promise same-day, but we plan the week around blocked gutters and an overflow that is doing damage goes to the front of it. Same fixed prices — there is no emergency call-out fee.
Buying or selling a house
A blocked gutter is the cheapest thing on a survey to fix and the easiest to prove. Buyers ask us to clear and film the gutters on a house they're about to complete on; sellers do it to take the damp question off the table. You get dated GoPro footage of every run, which is more than a surveyor's photo from the pavement.
Moss and sludge removal
Moss and the black sludge it turns into is what the SkyVac was built for. It comes out of the gutter as part of every clean at no extra charge. What we don't do is clean the moss off the roof itself — that's a roof-cleaning job, and we'll tell you if the roof is going to keep feeding the gutter so you can decide about it.
The person doing the work

Stephen Fudge
Owner & Operator · Former Local Authority Cleaning Inspector
When you book Gutter Cleaned, you deal with one person from start to finish — no call centre, no subcontractors. The person who quotes the job is the person who does the work and answers the phone afterwards.
I spent years as a Local Authority Cleaning Inspector, checking other people's work was done to standard, on top of 25+ years in professional cleaning. That trained eye is what I bring to every gutter I clean — and it's why every job comes with GoPro before-and-after footage, so you never have to take it on trust.

Blocked gutters in Nottingham, answered
How much does it cost to clear a blocked gutter in Nottingham?
Terraces and bungalows from £95, semis from £120, standard detached houses from £145 and large or three-storey houses from £160, all including VAT. The price is fixed before we start and it does not go up if the gutter turns out to be worse than it looked from the ground. Conservatory, extension and garage gutters are quoted separately.
How quickly can you clear a blocked gutter?
Usually within the week. Send your postcode through the form or call 0800 086 2887 and we come back the same day with a fixed price and the slots we have. If water is coming into the house we try to fit you in sooner — call rather than fill in the form, and there is no emergency call-out fee.
How do I choose a gutter cleaner in Nottingham for a blocked gutter?
Ask three things before you book anyone: do they work from the ground or off a ladder, will they send you footage of the gutter before and after, and is the price fixed before they arrive. A gutter cleaner who says yes to all three has nothing to hide. We clear from the ground with a SkyVac, film every run on GoPro, and the price is agreed from your property type before we set off.
How do you clear a blocked gutter without ladders?
With a SkyVac Industrial 85 — a high-powered vacuum on carbon-fibre poles that reach up to four storeys from the ground. A GoPro camera on the pole shows us what is in the gutter and films it before and after. Nothing rests on your walls, your roof or your conservatory glass.
Do you clear the downpipes as well?
Yes, every outlet and downpipe is flushed until it runs clear as part of the clean. If a downpipe is packed solid rather than just dirty we rod it as part of the job. If the gutter is clear and only the downpipe is the problem, see our downpipe unblocking page.
My gutter is leaking at a joint. Is that a blockage?
Sometimes. A blocked run holds water, and standing water finds the weakest joint. We clear the gutter first and check the joint once the water has gone. If the joint has failed rather than the gutter being blocked, we photograph it and tell you — we do not do repairs, so there is nothing for us to sell you.
Can you clear a gutter after a storm?
Yes. Storm damage goes to the front of the week because it is usually doing damage while it waits. Ring us and we will tell you straight away what we can do and when. Same fixed prices, no emergency call-out fee. If the storm has pulled a gutter off the wall, that is a repair rather than a clean and we will say so.
Can you clean and inspect the gutters on a house I am buying?
Yes. We clear every run and send you dated GoPro footage of the gutters before and after, which is more than a surveyor can see from the pavement. Sellers use the same service to take the damp question off the table before viewings. Book it the same way as any other clean, with the address of the property.
Do you remove moss from the roof as well as the gutter?
We clear the moss and sludge out of the gutter as part of every clean at no extra charge. We do not clean the moss off the roof tiles themselves — that is a roof-cleaning job. We will tell you honestly if the roof is going to keep feeding the gutter, so you can decide whether a twice-a-year clean on the Gutter Health Plan or a roof clean makes more sense.
Do I need to be home for the gutter clean?
Yes please — the SkyVac runs off mains power, so we need an outdoor socket or a plug just inside the door. Once we are set up you can carry on with your day, and we send the GoPro before-and-after footage over the same day, easiest by WhatsApp.
How do I pay?
By card on the day — we carry a SumUp tap-and-go machine and you get a receipt straight away, the same as in a shop. The price is fixed before we start, so what you're quoted is what you pay.

A gurgling downpipe or a gutter that overflows only at one end usually means the pipe is packed, not the gutter. We rod and flush it from the ground and confirm it runs before we leave.
