Why a cleaning inspector became a gutter cleaner

I started Stardust Cleaning Services in 2000 and have spent the 25 years since in professional exterior cleaning across Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire. Along the way I worked as a Local Authority Cleaning Inspector — the person who checks that contractors’ work has actually been done to the standard they were paid for. You learn quickly that most disputes come from two things: nobody agreed the price properly, and nobody can prove what was done.
Gutter cleaning is a trade with both problems. The work happens above your head where you can’t see it, the price is often decided on the doorstep, and the same firm that tells you your gutter is blocked is usually keen to tell you it needs replacing too. So when I launched Gutter Cleaned in 2025 I built it the way an inspector would want it: a fixed price from the property type before anyone turns up, a GoPro on the end of the pole filming every run before and after, and no repairs — so there is never a reason for me to find a problem that isn’t there. It is also the advice I’d give anyone choosing a gutter cleaner in Nottingham, whether they book me or not: agree the price before the van arrives, and ask for proof of what was done.

From the ground, up to four storeys
The SkyVac Industrial 85 on carbon-fibre poles lifts moss, silt, leaves and compost out of the gutter without a ladder touching your wall or anyone going on your roof. Over conservatory glass, up sloping streets, behind chimneys. It is safer, it is kinder to the building, and it means there is no scaffold or lift to pay for.
Filmed before and after, every job
A GoPro on the pole films every run before I start and after I finish, and you get both the same day, easiest by WhatsApp. You never take a gutter clean on trust, and you have a dated record if a damp question, a deposit dispute or a house sale ever comes up.
Fixed price, nothing to sell you
The price is agreed from the property type and postcode before I start and does not go up because the gutter was worse than it looked. I don’t do repairs: if I find a failed joint or a dropped run you get a photo and a plain explanation, and you get the repair quoted by whoever you choose.
What turns up on your drive
SkyVac Industrial 85
A commercial gutter vacuum with the power to lift wet, compacted moss and silt through 12 metres of pole. It runs off a standard 13-amp socket — the one thing I need from you on the day — and everything it collects goes into the drum, then into bags, then into the van.
Carbon-fibre poles and angled heads
Light enough to control at four storeys, with angled and narrow heads for box gutters, parapets, hoppers and the valley behind a conservatory. Nothing rests on the roof or the glass.
GoPro on the pole
The camera goes wherever the vacuum head goes, so the footage shows the inside of the gutter, not a photo from the pavement. Before and after on every run, sent the same day.
SumUp card machine
Tap and go on the day with a receipt straight away, the same as in a shop. Landlords and businesses can be invoiced. Nothing is taken in advance and nothing goes on a direct debit, including the Gutter Health Plan.

If we find damage
We report it, we don't repair it. If a joint has failed, a bracket has gone or a downpipe is cracked, you get a photo and a plain explanation the same day, and it goes in your report so you have it in writing. We don't do gutter repairs, so there's no reason for us to find problems that aren't there — you decide what to do next, and you can use the footage to get a repair quoted properly.

What makes Gutter Cleaned different from other Nottingham gutter cleaners?

Do you do repairs?
No, and that is deliberate. We clean and we report. If a joint has failed or a run has dropped you get a photo and a plain explanation, and you get the repair quoted by whoever you choose with our footage to show them.
Do I need to be home?
Yes please — the SkyVac runs off mains power, so we need an outdoor socket or a plug just inside the door. Once we are set up you can carry on with your day. For rental properties we arrange this with the tenant.
