Three recent Mapperley jobs, exactly as the customer saw them
Every clean gets a GoPro before-and-after sent the same day. Here’s what that looks like on real Mapperley houses — a moss-filled gutter surveyed and quoted before we cleaned it, a plant growing out of a gutter in January, and an autumn’s worth of leaves on Roseleigh Avenue — what we found, what we did, and what the customer said afterwards. All our Google reviews are below.

Family house, Digby Avenue NG3
A gutter full of moss, and a downpipe that had dropped
- ●What we found
Summer had dried the moss on the concrete tiles to a rust-brown mat, and most of it had slid into the front gutter, which was full to the top and shedding onto the drive. The customer asked for a quote first, so we surveyed with the camera, sent the footage with a fixed price, and came back two days later to do the job.
- ●What we did
Every run cleared from the ground with the SkyVac and every downpipe flushed until it ran. While the poles were up we noticed a downpipe had dropped out of its bracket, so we put it back, and we cleared the gully in front of the garage that the overflow had been filling with silt. Neither was on the quote; neither cost extra.
- ●Result
Gutter clear the full length of the roof and draining down the pipe again, downpipe back where it belongs, gully running. The moss still on the tiles is a roof job, not a gutter one, and it’s why this house will need doing again. GoPro before and after shared with the customer the same day.
“Stephen came today and cleaned our gutters. If I could I would give more than 5 stars. Stephen is polite, friendly and efficient. Was impressed with the response I got when I first enquired asking for a quote . It was very detailed and informative along with a very reasonable price. Stephen took before and after photos which he shared with us. Also fixed a dropped drainpipe and cleaned the gully in front of the garage. Would thoroughly recommend and we will be using his services again.”

Rear gutter, Haywood Road NG3
A plant in full leaf in the middle of winter
- ●What we found
A wet January morning and a rear gutter with a plant growing out of it — in leaf, in January, which tells you how much soil was underneath it. The run was full of compost and moss along its length and the outlet had been blocked for long enough that water was going over the back edge and down the wall.
- ●What we did
SkyVac clear of the full run from the ground — plant, roots and the compost under it out — then the outlet and downpipe flushed until they ran clear. Nothing on the slates, which are the last thing you want a ladder against when they’re wet.
- ●Result
Gutter clear from end to end and taking the rain off the slates properly again, filmed in the rain so the customer could see it draining. GoPro before and after sent the same morning.

Front gutter, Roseleigh Avenue NG3
Autumn leaves on top of a bed of moss
- ●What we found
The end-of-autumn special: a layer of wet leaves sitting on top of a bed of moss that had been building up from the tiles for years. The front run was full to the edge and, with the trees along the avenue bare by December, everything that was going to fall had fallen.
- ●What we did
Full SkyVac clear of the front run from the ground, then the outlet and downpipe flushed until they ran. Every run filmed before and after so the customer could see the whole length, not just the bit visible from the pavement.
- ●Result
Gutter clear and carrying the rain away as it should, on a day when there was plenty of it to carry. GoPro before and after sent the same morning.

Gutter cleaning services for Mapperley homes
From blocked gutters to three-storey terraces on the hill — all done from the ground with SkyVac and GoPro footage on every job.
Blocked Gutter Cleaning
The most common job we do in Mapperley. On the steep Victorian roofs up Woodborough Road it's slate grit and silt washed fast into undersized gutters; on the 1930s semis along Plains Road and Westdale Lane it's moss off the tiles. We clear it, flush every downpipe and restore full flow — with GoPro evidence of every run.

Mapperley's hill is lined with three-storey Victorian terraces and villas, and the top gutter on a sloping street can be four storeys off the pavement on the downhill side. The SkyVac reaches it from the ground, so nobody goes up a ladder or onto a bay roof.
Learn more →Gutter Health Plan
Two planned cleans a year, autumn and spring, with a reminder before each visit and GoPro footage after. Price fixed for 12 months, no contract. Built for the exposed roofs on the Plains, where wind-blown leaf and grit fill a gutter twice a year.

Stephen Fudge
Owner & Operator · Former Local Authority Cleaning Inspector
When you book Gutter Cleaned for your Mapperley clean, you deal with one person from start to finish — no call centre, no subcontractors. The person who quotes the job is the person who does the work and answers the phone afterwards.
I spent years as a Local Authority Cleaning Inspector, checking other people's work was done to standard, on top of 25+ years in professional cleaning. That trained eye is what I bring to every Mapperley gutter I clean — and it's why every job comes with GoPro before-and-after footage, so you never have to take it on trust.
Cleaning your Mapperley gutters, step by step
Every clean follows the same routine — entirely from the ground, no ladders against your walls, no one on your roof.
Fixed quote
Tell us your property type and Mapperley postcode — we reply with a fixed price, no call-out fee.
GoPro before footage
We record every gutter run before we start, so you can see the condition and the debris level.
SkyVac clear
Vacuum poles draw out moss, silt and leaves from the ground — up to four storeys. On the Victorian terraces up the hill that usually means slate grit and silt in a narrow gutter; on the Plains semis, moss off the concrete tiles.
Downpipes flushed
We clear and confirm every downpipe is flowing before we finish.
Anything flagged
Cracked joints, sagging runs or loose brackets spotted on the way — photographed and pointed out. On the Woodborough Road terraces that's usually a failed cast-iron joint or a downpipe cracked where it meets the hopper.
Footage & tidy
Debris taken away, nothing left on your drive, and your GoPro before & after sent over the same day — easiest by WhatsApp.
If we find damage
We report it, we don't repair it. If a joint has failed, a bracket has gone or a downpipe is cracked, you get a photo and a plain explanation the same day, and it goes in your report so you have it in writing. We don't do gutter repairs, so there's no reason for us to find problems that aren't there — you decide what to do next, and you can use the footage to get a repair quoted properly.
What we find on Mapperley jobs
Steep roofs, small gutters
Mapperley's Victorian terraces have steeply pitched slate roofs that shed water fast into gutters that were never big enough. Slate grit, moss and silt wash straight to the outlet and pack it, and in heavy rain the gutter overflows at the corner before it has a chance to drain. On a sloping street the run is often out of level too, so one end holds water all year.
Wind-blown debris on the Plains
At over 400 feet Mapperley is the highest and most exposed ground in Nottingham. The wind that clears one roof fills the next, and the 1930s semis along Plains Road, Westdale Lane and the roads off them collect leaf, seed and moss from every garden upwind. A north-facing roof on the Plains grows moss faster than almost anywhere else we clean.
Cast-iron joints and hoppers
Many of the older houses on Woodborough Road, Porchester Road and around St Jude's are still on cast-iron with lead-caulked joints and hopper heads at the top of the downpipe. When a joint or hopper fails it looks like a blockage from the pavement — a green streak down the brickwork is the first sign. Cleaning shows which it is, and we tell you straight, with a photo, before you spend money on the wrong fix.
The property types we clean in Mapperley
Mapperley grew along the Woodborough Road ridge after Nottingham took it into the borough in 1877, then spread out across the Plains between the wars — so its gutters come in every era, and each one blocks differently.
Tall terraces and villas on the hill
Bay-fronted terraces and semi-detached villas, often three storeys, on streets that drop steeply off the ridge. Slate roofs, cast-iron gutters, hoppers and valleys between the bays. We clean them entirely from the ground — no ladders against 130-year-old brickwork, and no guessing at the top run on the downhill side.
Inter-war semis
Hipped roofs, deep half-round gutters and mature front-garden trees, on the exposed ground along the top of the ridge. The corner where the gutter turns to the side elevation is where the outlet blocks, and the garage or porch gutter is usually forgotten altogether.
Post-war semis and bungalows
Plastic guttering fitted decades ago and now past its best — brackets loosen, runs bow, and moss washes into the sag. Bungalows get ignored because they look reachable. We clear it, flush the downpipes, and tell you honestly if a run needs re-bracketing rather than cleaning.
Modern estates and infill
The newer housing on the old Mapperley Hospital land and the closes off Woodborough Road and Plains Road has factory-fitted UPVC, tight roof valleys and gutters that trap debris out of sight. Builder grit and tile chippings block a new gutter faster than you would think.
From our office to your Mapperley gutters
We're based in New Basford, on the other side of Sherwood, so Mapperley is one of our shortest runs. Here's the drive our van makes most weeks.
Mapperley sits on a ridge about two miles north-east of the city centre — at over 400 feet the highest ground in Nottingham, and once the site of the brickworks whose clay built half the city; the saying was that Nottingham once stood on Mapperley Plains. The Victorian terraces followed the brickworks up Woodborough Road, the 1930s semis followed the tram out along the Plains, and the old Mapperley Hospital off Porchester Road has been housing since it closed in the 1990s. For gutters that means steep roofs, tall houses, and the most exposed, wind-blown streets in the city.
We set off from Chelsea House on Chelsea Street in New Basford, NG7, and head east along Haydn Road into Sherwood, across Mansfield Road at the shops and up Woodthorpe Drive past Woodthorpe Grange Park — the climb is the reason the tree cover along here fills so many Woodthorpe and Mapperley gutters in October.
The drive tops out at Mapperley Top, the junction where Woodborough Road, Plains Road and Porchester Road meet by the shops. From there Woodborough Road drops back down the hill towards St Ann’s through the tall Victorian terraces; Plains Road and Westdale Lane run out along the ridge through the 1930s semis to Mapperley Plains and the Gedling border; and Porchester Road takes us down past the old hospital land into Porchester and Thorneywood.
Door to door it’s about three miles and 10–15 minutes, which is why a Mapperley overflow can usually be dealt with the same week and why there are no travel charges anywhere in NG3.
The hill and Mapperley Top
Woodborough Road, Porchester Road, the streets around St Jude’s and the shops at Mapperley Top — the older housing, the tallest roofs and the steepest streets.
The Plains, Porchester and Thorneywood
Plains Road, Westdale Lane, Mapperley Plains, Porchester Gardens and the closes off Porchester Road down to Thorneywood — inter-war semis, post-war bungalows and modern estates, all at the same fixed pricing.
Mapperley streets and postcodes we cover (NG3 5, NG3 6)
We clean gutters across the whole of Mapperley, Mapperley Plains, Porchester and Thorneywood. These are the roads and areas we work in — if yours isn't listed, we still cover it.
Plus the whole of NG3 5 and NG3 6. No travel charges anywhere in Mapperley.
Gutter cleaning in Mapperley, answered
How much does gutter cleaning cost in Mapperley?
Most Mapperley semis are £120–£145. Terraces and bungalows start at £95, standard detached houses at £145 and large or three-storey houses at £160. All prices include VAT and are fixed before we start — conservatory, extension and garage gutters are quoted separately.
How long does a gutter clean take in Mapperley?
About an hour for a typical 1930s semi, 45 minutes for a terrace or bungalow, and up to two hours for a three-storey terrace or a large detached house with garage and extension gutters. That includes the GoPro before and after and flushing every downpipe.
Do you cover all of Mapperley?
Yes — the whole of Mapperley, Mapperley Plains, Porchester and Thorneywood, NG3 5 and NG3 6, from the Victorian terraces up Woodborough Road across the Plains to the Gedling border. If you're nearby in Mapperley Park, Woodthorpe, Arnold, Sherwood or Carlton, we cover those too.
Can you reach the top gutter on a three-storey terrace on a sloping Mapperley street?
Yes. The SkyVac reaches four storeys from the ground with carbon-fibre poles, and the GoPro camera on the end shows us — and you — exactly what is in the gutter. On a sloping street we work from the downhill side with the full pole length, so nobody goes up a ladder or onto a bay roof. See high-level gutter cleaning for the tallest terraces.
How do I find a reliable gutter cleaner in Mapperley?
Ask how they reach the gutter, whether they send footage, and whether the price is fixed before they arrive. Mapperley’s steep streets are the test: a ladder on a sloping pavement against a three-storey Victorian terrace is where most gutter cleaners either refuse the job or do it badly. We work from the downhill side with full-length poles, film every run, fix the price from your property type, and are on Woodborough Road or the Plains most weeks.
Do you clean cast-iron gutters and hoppers on the Victorian houses in Mapperley?
Yes. We vacuum them from the ground rather than leaning ladders on old brickwork, clear the hopper head at the top of the downpipe, and if a joint is leaking rather than blocked we tell you, with a photo, so you can decide what to do about it.
How often should Mapperley gutters be cleaned?
Once a year for most houses, after leaf fall in November. The exposed roofs along the Plains and Westdale Lane, and any north-facing mossy roof, are better twice a year — our Gutter Health Plan covers that at a fixed price.
How soon can you clean gutters in Mapperley?
Usually within the week. Send your postcode through the form or call 0800 086 2887 and we come back the same day with a fixed price and the slots we have. Mapperley is a short run from us in New Basford, so an overflow that needs sorting quickly can often be fitted in sooner.
How do I pay for gutter cleaning in Mapperley?
By card on the day — we carry a SumUp tap-and-go machine and you get a receipt straight away, the same as in a shop. The price is fixed before we start, so what you're quoted is what you pay.
Do I need to be home for the gutter clean?
Yes please — the SkyVac runs off mains power, so we need an outdoor socket or a plug just inside the door. Once we're set up you can carry on with your day, and we send the GoPro before-and-after footage over the same day, easiest by WhatsApp.
